For a consultant or consulting firm to be successful, marketing is the key! There are many highly qualified consultants across the U.S. who talents are are not being utilized by Corporate America because they have not effectively marketed themselves to prospective clients. As the trade association for the consulting profession, The Consultants Bureau provides several services specifically designed to meet the needs of the solo practitioner and small consulting practice.
Growing Your Consulting Practice: You need to make your services known to Corporate America (or the non-for-profit or government sectors if they are prospects for your services), and you then need to have professional marketing materials that describe the services you offer. Here are the steps in the process.
-
Learn How to Market Your Consulting Services: The Consultants Bureau offers an informative video seminar for consultants just starting a practice, those considering getting into consulting, and consultants who have not managed to develop a client base and need help with their marketing. Originally offered as a live seminar at locations across the country starting back in 1996, it has now been put on DVD to make it more widely available at a more affordable cost. For more information about this seminar, download the Launching, Marketing and Growing Your Consulting Practice DVD seminar Order Form.
-
Put Up a Website: No client will take you seriously if you do not have a website! That is a simple reality of the third millennium. Few start-up consultants have the expertise to design a website themselves, and even fewer can afford to pay a web design firm thousands of dollars to design a website for them. Moreover, many consultants do not know what their website should include. Addressing that need, The Consultants Bureau now offers a comprehensive website design service. For just $500, The Consultants Bureau will design and construct a fully-customized, professional, world-class website for your consulting practice! Our Website Design Instructions and Order Form takes you through the process of providing us with the information we need to design a world-class website for your consulting practice.
-
Develop a Prospectus: Every consulting practice needs a hard-copy marketing piece that is generally referred to as a “prospectus.” This marketing piece describes the services you offer, and it is used as both a prospecting tool to find clients as well as a closing tool to turn prospects into clients. And because many consultants – especially those without marketing expertise – do not know how to design and develop such a piece, The Consultants Bureau offers a Corporate Communications Design Service that you can use to develop a logo for your consulting practice, as well as design a corporate stationery package and a world-class prospectus. For pricing and information on how the process works, download our Corporate Communications Instructions and Order Form.
-
Join The Consultants Bureau: As a member, you are included in the National Consultants Referral Service database so you can be referred to clients in need of aconsultant with your mix of expertise and experience. And the primary cost of membership is back-loaded through a referral fee you pay when you receive a referral that turns into a consulting project. However, as you will learn when you download our Membership Application, you cannot be accepted into membership in The Consultants Bureau unless you have a website and a prospectus. As we explain on the Membership Application, The Consultants Bureau cannot refer a consultant to a client if the consultant does not have a professional website to refer the client to and does not have a prospectus to send to the client. You do not have to have your website and prospectus designed by The Consultants Bureau, but if you do must have both important marketing tools to qualify for membership The Consultants Bureau. The costs and guidelines are all explained in our Membership Application.
